Ross SmithHitting Coach
Ross Smith was born in Tuscaloosa, AL to Carol and Roger Smith; who was at the time coaching baseball for the University of Alabama. The Smith family relocated to Eastman Georgia, where Ross was a four sport letterman athlete at Dodge County High School in football, baseball, basketball and track. As a senior he was named to 1st Team All State as well as Middle Georgia Player of The Year for baseball. Out of high school Smith was drafted in the 32nd round of the 2006 MLB draft to the St. Louis Cardinals but decided to further his career and education by attending Auburn University.
While at Auburn Smith was able to contribute to the team as a freshman starter in the outfield and was given Freshman All American Honorable Mention. During his freshman campaign Smith appeared in 52 games and hit for a .288 average with a .397 slugging percentage, he added 12 doubles and two home runs as well. After a successful college career Smith would again be drafted this time in the 14th round of the 2009 draft by the Cardinals.
Smith began his professional career in Johnson City, TN for the Cardinals rookie ball team in the Appalachian League. In his only season there he would appear in 61 games hitting 11 doubles, 6 home runs and a .359 slugging percentage. Over the next year Smith would find himself moving up through the Cardinals system quickly appearing in the New York Penn League, Midwest League and the Florida State League during the same season. Smith would have his professional playing career end in 2011.
Since playing professionally Ross has been pursuing a career in MLB scouting and is currently on the Houston Astros staff since 2012. He has also been involved in helping multiple Division 1 players pursue their aspirations to become professional baseball players as their personal hitting coach.
